A Palestinian infiltrator from Jordan was shot and killed by Israeli security forces Friday night near Kfar Ruppin in the Beit She’an Valley.
He was identified as Farik Ali, 27, who was born in the Jabalya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israel Defense Force, the infiltration was detected when the intruder cut through an electrified wire in the border fen-setting off an alarm. Nearby settlements were placed on alert.
An IDF reserve unit on patrol found the breach in the fence and tracked the infiltrator about 2,300 feet inside Israeli territory.
The lead soldier was suddenly confronted by the man, who brandished a knife and shouted “Allah akhbar” (God is mighty).
The soldiers opened fire, killing the intruder on the spot.
He was found to be carrying a knife, a copy of the Koran and a detailed map of the region with some West Bank towns underlined. He wore a Moslem skullcap.
Jordanian authorities said later that Ali was a resident of Irbid, a city about 55 miles north Amman, and he appeared to belong to a Moslem fundamentalist group.
He apparently wanted “to take revenge what Israel is doing to the Palestinians in occupied territories,” they said.
