The local Jewish community today awaited eagerly the decision of Superior Court Justice Charles A. Wilson on a petition for an interlocutory injunction against a “shochet” (slaughterer) asserted to lack “the necessary qualifications.”
The Community Council seeks to restrain Isomor Brenner from acting as a ritual slaughterer. Justice Wilson has taken the case under advisement after describing it as “one of the most interesting” he has ever heard.
The court has to decide whether the charter of the Council and the laws of Quebec allow judicial restraint to be exercised in a case of this kind and whether Brenner, ### conformity with the tenets of the Mosaic law, may act as a ritual slaughterer.
