A kosher mess has been established for the Jewish boys in one of the largest Scout camps in Illinois, according to an announcement by James E. West, Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.

In his announcement Mr. West said, “We must recognize the fact that cer## groups of the Jewish faith rigidly instruct their children in the observance of the dietry laws and they claim quite legitimately, the right of religious instruction of their own children according to their own faith, and I think you will find that we would be placed in a very weak position, if by our failure to make it possible for boys to be faithful in their religious duties, any considerable number of them are prevented from availing themselves of the Boy Scout facilities. Our camping department has found it advisable to follow a consistent course and make it possible for boys, while in camp, not only to be faithful in their religious meetings, but in their actual living from day to day.”

The kitchen equipment for the kosher mess has been made possible by the United Synagogue of America, which is one of the twelve national Jewish organizations affiliated with the Jewish Committee on Scouting. This Committee is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
