The newly established Institute for Negev Research here began operations with a celebration attended by Premier Ben Gurion.
A joint effort of the Israel Government and UNESCO, the Institute is considered to be the eastern hemisphere’s most coordinated body examining scientific possibilities for conquering the desert for human, animal and plant life. The Negev institute’s official opening will take place in October with UNESCO delegates present.
