The Institute of Jewish Affairs, research affiliate of the World Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Congress, today reported that 5,700,000 Jews, or 60 percent of the total Jewish population in Europe, were murdered by the Axis.
The report said that the Institute came to this conclusion on the basis of statistics gathered from all available sources on the number of Jewish civilian casualties during the Axis domination in Europe. It added that if the Jews killed by the Germans in Russia are excluded from the count, the percentage of Jews killed or missing would reach 68 percent. None of these estimates, it is pointed out, takes into consideration the military casualties among Jews.
