An Inter-faith delegation this week-end called at the White House to thank President Eisenhower for his proposal to admit 240,000 immigrants in excess of quotas during the next two years.
Walter Bieringer, president of the United Service for New Americans, participated with representatives of the National Catholic Welfare Council, National Council of Churches of Christ, National Lutheran Council, and the Church World Service Organization. Dr. Walter H. Van Kirk, spokesman for the group, said that the implementation of the President’s request was urgently needed to relieve refugees from Communism.
