The Congress of the Interparliamentary Union at its closing session yesterday adopted a series of resolutions providing for the safeguarding in some of the old and newly created European States of the rights of the national minorities. The resolutions were introduced by M. Usteri, of the Swiss Delegation.
The first resolution demanding full safeguards for the languages and religions of the minority nationalities was adopted with but five disscenting votes.
The establishment of interstate equality committees to prevent national conflicts was adopted unanimously.
With thirteen disscenting votes, a resolution was carried for the establiehment of a permanent committee at the Interparliamentary Union to control the rights of minorities, with special reference to admissions in schools and universities.
This resolution is directed against the agitation in a number of European countries in favor of percentage norm for members of minority nationalities.
