Beginning May 1 the Intergovernmental Refugee committee will assume responsibility for the maintenance of displaced persons in ##aly, it was reported here today following discussions between Sir George Rendel, British representative on the Committee, and members of the Italian cabinet. Rendel returned to London yesterday.
It is stated that the displaced Jews, who are under protection of UNRRA, ## who oppose being placed within the jurisdiction of the Committee, were not included in the agreement. The Jews desire that UNRRA continue its activities in their ## half until the International Refugee Organization is able to assume responsibility. ## of the 30,000 persons believed affected by the agreement are non-Jews from Central Europe who refuse to return to their native lands.
Twelve thousand Yugoslavs who have been in DP camps in this country since ## end of the war will shortly be transferred to the British zone of Germany, it ## reliably learned today.
