Interior Minister Gaston Deferre Sunday night paid tribute to Israel’s courage and determination and said that President Francois Mitterrand’s recent trip to Israel is “a symbolic gesture which has linked the two countries together for all times.” Deferre, who is also mayor of Marseilles, addressed local community leaders after presenting the city’s Chief Rabbi Joseph Sitruk with the National Medal of Merit.
