Robert C. Goodwin, American representative to the International Labor Organization meeting here, today stated that the U. S. Government was “concerned” that all immigrants to all nations should have equal rights and receive equal treatment regardless of race or religion.
The statement was made at the closing session of the Permanent Migration Committee of the I. L. O., which later adopted a resolution assorting that the policy of non-discrimination was a fundamental condition of orderly migration movements. The committee also criticized various discriminatory practices.
Gilberto Adamo, immigration expert of the Brazilian Government, said that his government did not practice any racial discrimination and said it would welcome agricultural workers. The Chilean delegate reported that his government has set aside 6,000,000 pesos to finance immigration to Chile. The Polish representative advocated consulting the immigrants’ nation of origin before inviting them to settle in foreign lands.
