An international Convention on the Status of Stateless Persons assuring certain rights and protections to stateless persons was signed here by the representatives of 15 nations and the Vatican. The conference was attended by the representatives of 26 states.
The document provides that stateless persons, like citizens be entitled to public relief, social security and a share of any rationed foods; that, like foreigners of definite nationality, they be entitled to acquire property, hold jobs, engage in professional work, occupy public housing and get higher education, and that they be issued travel documents to serve as passports.
