A one-year “interneship” for rabbis was proposed today by the rabbinical Assembly, closing its 38th annual convention at the Fairmont Hotel. The 90 Conservative rabbis attending the four-day sessions adopted a resolution asking their parent body, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, to Broaden its four-year Course Into a five-year Curriculum, in the Last Year Of Which The Rabbi Would Gain practical experience in his profession by serving Under Another rabbi Or Serving in a small community which has no rabbi.
In another resolution, the convention decided to employ a permanent field worker, one of whose duties would be to facilitate the placing of rabbis in congregations. Questions concerning the rabbinical Assembly’s attitude toward Palestine, social justice and welfare work were referred to the executive council for consideration.
Dr. Simon Greenberg, of Philadelphia, was re-elected president, and the following other officers: Dr. Max Arzt, Scranton, Pa., vice-president; Rabbi Leon S. Lang, Newark, N.J., treasurer; Rabbi Arthur H. Neulander, New York, recording secretary, and Rabbi Ralph Simon, New York, corresponding secretary. The following were added to the executive council: Jacob Bosniak, New York; Samuel Fredman, Philadelphia; Jacob Freedman, Fall River, Mass.; S. Joshua Kohn, Utica, N.Y.; Gershon Hadas, Kansas City, and Isidore Hoffman, New York.
