A bill for introducing methods for the humane slaughter of annimals for food, which would not, however, affect the Schechita, the Jewish method of slaughtering animals, was introduced in the House of Commons by Lieut. Colonel T. C. Russel Moore, Conservative.

At its first reading, the bill found support in Sir Arthur Shirley Benn, Conservative, and Noel Buxton, Laborite.

Col. Moore has been sponsoring the measure since 1927 when it was passed in its final stage by the Scottish Standing Committee of the House of Commons. At that time Col. Moore moved a clause exempting from the provisions of the bill any animals slaughtered for the food of Jews by a Jew duly licensed for the purpose by the Chief Rabbi. This clause was opposed by some members but it was carried in the committee by a vote of 18 to 3.
