An investigation of the Israel police methods of handling the demonstrations of Orthodox Jews in this city was demanded today by Knesset deputy Eliahu Genichovsky, of the Poale Mizrachi Party.
Mr. Genichovsky cited his own experiences yesterday when he was picked up by policemen and taken to a police station after he refused to tell him where he was going. He was picked up in the Mahneh Yehuda quarter, an area where there have been a number of demonstrations against traffic on the Sabbath. A number of other arrests have been made here and one leader of the ultra-Orthodox Neturei Karta sect will shortly stand trial on charges of interfering with traffic.
Mr. Genichowsky said that when he identified himself at the police station, he was told that he had parliamentary immunity in the Knesset, not in the police station.
