Governor Herschei C. Loveless, of Iowa, principal speaker at the annual land-for-Israel dinner of the Jewish National Fund of New England, declared here last night that “the Government and people of Israel will be called upon to make greater and additional sacrifices, to provide land and water resources for the settlement of the mass exodus of Jews now streaming into Israel from Rumania. ” Just returned from a visit to Israel, the Governor stressed that his observations stemmed “from my personal observations and meeting the people daring my recent visit to Israel.”
“There is an unquestionable sprit of dedication to their people and their ten-year old State, the Governor said. “It is a spirit only equaled by those pioneers in the early days of the development of this great nation. “
Joseph Kaplan, dinner chairman, also spoke of his recent visit to Israel, asserting that “the Twentieth Century dynamism, courage and integrity of Israel and its people are heartening, in comparison with the corruption and ignorance of the surrounding Arab countries.”
