Iran’s Minister of the Interior has reaffirmed a guarantee of freedom to Jews. Christians and Zoroastrians according to Teheran radio report monitored here this week-end In a statement to the Iranian Parliament the Minister of the Interior was reported to have said that “in accordance with the Constitution and the country’s laws minorities which practice Zoroastrianism, Judaism and Christianity will enjoy complete freedom and respect within the framework of the law”
The statement the report added was part of the Parliamentary proceedings relating to the outlawing of the Bahai sect in Iran which the Iranian Government describes as composed of “seditions elements and illegal groups.” According to the latest available figures here the Jewish population of Iran numbers 75,000, of whom more than half live in the capital city of Teheran.
