Iran claimed that it successfully test-fired a new surface-to-surface missile that puts Israel within its reach.
In announcing the test Wednesday, Iran’s state-run media claimed that the Islamic Republic was ready to defend itself against any attacker, Reuters reported.
The two-stage Sejil missile was tested in the presence of Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Majjar, who claimed that the missile has a range of 1,200 miles, enabling it to reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Persian Gulf.
Iran has said it would respond to any attack on its interests by targeting Israel.
