An anti-Jewish campaign is also involved in the Iraq situation, reported in the London Sunday Referee in dispatches from Bagdad on the massacre of hundreds of Assyrians by Kurdish irregulars. The Arab majority in Iraq has started on a course of Hitlerite persecutions against the Jewish community which has been settled in Babylonia since the days of Nebuchadnezzar, the Referee stated.

In one demonstration just outside of Bagdad, the paper reported, Arabs carried large black flags with anti-Jewish inscriptions. The police looked on passively while the demonstrators attacked Jewish pedestrians.

The same evening, said the Referee, a Jew was stabbed and seriously injured by two Moslems on one of the principal streets of Bagdad and a Jewish home was burned down by incendiaries.

The campaign is due to the Arab reaction to Zionist progress in the upbuilding of Palestine, the paper stated, recalling the attacks several years ago when the late Lord Melchett visited Bagdad and the Arabs mistakenly thought he came there for Zionistic purposes.
