Israel has sent a sharp protest to Jordan for permitting Iraqi military aircraft to use its air space, Ma’ariv reported Sunday.
The Israeli message was conveyed by the United States, since Israel and Jordan have no formal diplomatic relations.
According to Ma’ariv, Iraqi planes made at least two reconnaissance flights over Jordan and photographed the Jordanian-Israeli border.
Israel advised Jordan a month ago it could not ignore such activities, Ma’ariv said.
Since the Iran-Iraq war ended last year, Jordanian-Iraqi cooperation has increased. Iraq has transferred several dozen tanks to Jordan.
Jordan has facilitated the transfer of Iraqi weapons and combat materiel to Christian forces battling the Syrian army in Lebanon, through its port of Aqaba, adjacent to Eilat.
