Opposition to partition of Palestine was expressed today by Tewfik EL Swaidy, Iraq’s representative, at a session of the Assembly devoted to a general discussion of the league of Nations’ work during the past year.
Declaring his Government and people seriously concerned about the Palestine disturbances, EL Swaidy asserted that Iraq was interested in strengthening Arab unity and considered tranquillity in the oriental part of the Mediterranean of prime importance to her interests.
He voiced the belief that Great Britain would eventually take into consideration the Arab world’s opposition to partition and that the new commission would decide it was “inequitable and impractical” and would instead propose a solution safeguarding Arab rights.
The representative of Iran (Persia) also touched on Palestine, declaring that his Government “hopes for a solution which is just and equitable and at the same time practical, and which may further the cause of peace and harmony in Palestine.”
