Proposals for the establishment of a separate Palestinian Arab state on the West Bank were attacked by Iraqi Foreign Minister Ismail Khairallah, the London Times reported from Beirut today. The Iraqi said that the Arabs rejected all “suspicious” plans. A proposal this week by Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba that the United Nations troops replace Israeli forces in occupied territories was ignored in Cairo and condemned in Damascus, the Times reported.
A statement issued by the Israel Cabinet yesterday, affirming Israel’s stand on direct peace negotiations with the Arabs was viewed by the Arab press as evidence that the “hawks” in Israel have the upper hand. That was the headline in one Beirut newspaper. An Amman paper claimed that the Israel Cabinet was “blowing up the Jarring mission and the Security Council resolution,” the Times reported.
