The immigration movement of Iraqi Jews to Israel is due to end within the next week or ten days, after which priority in immigration to the Jewish state will be given to Rumanian Jews, Itzhak Raphael, Jewish Agency member, today told a press conference here.
Mr. Raphael announced that 106,662 Iraqi Jews had been brought to this country in 1,000 flights and that the remaining Jews who wish to leave Iraq for Israel will be brought here before the middle of July. He expressed his appreciation of the “indefatigable” political and financial efforts in behalf of the Iraqi Jews. In a review of the general immigration picture, he stated that prospects of Hungarian immigration are “dull,” while he hopes that North African immigration will increase toward the end of the year. Earlier today, the Agency announced that 22,398 immigrants entered Israel last month.
