Irish-born Rabbi Theodore Lewis, spiritual director of Newport, Rhode Island’s 189-year-old synagogue, Jeshuat Israel, was guest of honor at a banquet here last night tendered by some 409 Irishmen in recognition of the Rabbi’s contributions to Irish culture. Rabbi Lewis, who came to the United States three years ago, was cheered by the assemblage and hailed as “a native of Dublin, fluent Gaelic speaker and authority on Irish folklore.”
