Roumanian authorities are conducting a nation-wide hunt for Cornelius Codreanu, leader of the banned Iron Guard, anti-nationalistic, anti-Semite organization. Codreanu is said to have disguised himself as a woman and escaped from police detachments now searching for him. More than 3,500 members of the Iron Guard were arrested by the police.
Police acting under instructions of the government raided Iron Guard headquarters in various parts of Roumania. Numerous pistol battles and riots were reported in Bucharest. No deaths are listed, but a police commissioner was seriously wounded in a clash with Guardists.
