“Is the world really unable to save us?” asks a pathetic message, in code, from Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland, which was received here today.
Other messages reaching here during the last few days report renewed Nazi massacres in all parts of Poland. One message reports that not a single Jew has been left alive in the entire region of Schondnica, in Galicia. All the Jews there were driven into neighboring woods where they were executed after being forced to dig their own graves.
In Rawa-Russka, a large Galician city, Jews are being executed daily after reaching there from Holland, Belgium and from various parts of Poland, another message reveals. The Nazi authorities are forcing the Jews of Rawa-Russka to bury the executed victims. Hair-raising scenes are taking place. Though the Jewish residents of Rawa-Russka have been left alive thus far, they are aware that some day they will be “liquidated” in the same manner as the deported Jews.
Reports that all Jews have been deported from Lwow, capital of Eastern Galicia, are not correct, according to information reaching here today. There are still many Jews in the ghetto there and death is taking a heavy toll daily, it is stated.
(The Polish National Council in London today unanimously adopted the text of a law which gives Polish military authorities the right to punish citizens of German and Nazi-dominated countries for crimes committed against Polish Christians and Jews, or their property since August 31, 1939. The penalties range from the death sentence to long terms in prison.)
