Leaders in all walks of American Jewish life yesterday honored Isaac Schneersohn, president of the world committee for the erection of a monument in Paris for the 6, 000, 000 Jews annihilated by the Nazis, who returned to Paris today following a stay of several weeks in New York during which he negotiated with the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for an allocation for his project.
As a result of these negotiations, the Conference decided to allocate $300,000 for the projected memorial in Paris, to be paid within two years. At the luncheon yesterday at the Barbizon Plaza Hotel, presided over by Isidore Lipshutz, speakers lauded Mr. Schneersohn’s energetic efforts to immortalize the memory of the Jewish martyrs and to activate American Jewry to participate in the project. The speakers included Sylvan Gottschal, Adolph Held, Dr. Israel Wechsler, Alexander Kahn, Morris Weinberg, Nathan Chanin, S. Dingol, Dr. L. Fogelman and others.
