Isadore Bookstein, prominent Albany Jewish lawyer is the Republican nominee for attorney-general. Although just past 39, Mr. Bookstein has had a distinguished political career in addition to having taken an active part in Jewish communal affairs. A member of the bar since 1913 he was named assistant district attorney of Albany County in 19##. Former Governor Nathan Miller a year later appointed him county judge in which office he served until 1921. He was defeated for county judge in 1922.
After years of private practice he resumed his interest in politics early this year when he became chairman of the Republican committee of Albany County. Mr. Bookstein is vice-president of the Albany Jewish Community Centre, a trustee of the Albany Jewish Home Society and a past president of the Gideon Lodge of the B’nai B’rith.
The nomination of Mr. Bookstein recalls the fact that in 1924 and in 1926 the Republican nominee for attorney-general was Albert Ottinger, who was twice elected despite a Democratic landslide.
