Isadore “Pop” Lauer, for twenty-five years caretaker and faithful servant of the Bronx Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association, will be given recognition for “his work, his never ebbing good humor, and his lovable personality,” at a dinner in his honor next Saturday.
Lauer, who will be sixty-nine on May 21, has been with the Bronx “Y” since May 24, 1909, when the organization first saw the light of day. He is one of the two remaining persons who have not severed their connections with the institution since that time. The other is Jacob L. Markel, member of the board of directors.
In the midst of incessant activity centering around the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the “Y,” “Pop” is by no means a “forgotten man.” Thoughts of honoring him found their first expression in the three thousand members of the organization. They were translated into action by the Kovod Society, which is planning and sponsoring the testimonial.
WILL RENEW ACQUAINTANCE
Men and women successful in their professional callings will attend the function to renew their acquaintance with the good-natured man who was the playmate of their childhood days. The Old-Timers Association of the “Y” is expected to be present in a unit, as is the organization’s Senior Council.
Samuel Feldman is chairman of the Kovod Society’s arrangement committe, which includes Henry Gezunterman, Gus Jacobson, Ruth Dokson, Joseph Kitt and Irving Malbin, Philip Gross, director of the Thalian-Masquers, varsity dramatic group of the Y. M. and Y.W.H.A., is chairman of the entertainment committee. MacDennison, a former “Y” member who is now on the legitimate stage, will be a guest performer.
