Islamic Jihad shelled Sderot from the Gaza Strip

After holding fire for a week, Islamic Jihad launched at least 12 rockets at the southern Israeli border town early Thursday, causing structural damage but no casualties.

The Palestinian terrorist group called the salvo revenge for Wednesday’s Israeli swoops on the West Bank in which four of its members died.

The rockets stirred concern in Israel that Hamas, which has links to Islamic Jihad and runs Gaza, could abandon Egyptian-brokered negotiations on a possible cease-fire. But Hamas stopped short of calling off the talks and did not immediately launch any rockets of its own.

Israeli military spokesmen said the Air Force destroyed a rocket launcher in northern Gaza, but it was not clear if any Islamic Jihad members had been hurt.
