The Israeli Government today accepted–less than 24 hours after its issuance last night–the United Nations Security Council’s order to halt the Palestine war by Monday morning, Tel Aviv time. In a message to U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie, Israeli Minister Moshe Shertok said that the truce order will be carried out as soon as Israel is informed that all Arab governments have issued the necessary order.
The text of Shertok’s cable to Lie follows:
“Have honor acknowledge receipt your telegram containing text resolution Security Council and communicate you following resolution adopted by Provisional Government Israel after its consideration:
“Provisional Government of Israel, having taken note of resolution of Security Council of July 15, 1948, decided comply with Council’s request for resumption truce Palestine and for immediate unconditional cease-fire in Jerusalem. Provisional Government is ready issue necessary orders to both effects as soon as it is notified that all Arab Governments and authorities concerned have likewise accepted truce in Palestine and immediate cease-fire in Jerusalem and have issued orders for these arrangements to take effect at respective times laid down in resolution. Provisional Government accepts resumption of truce in accordance with its declared attitude as to conditions to be observed.
“Regarding cease-fire in Jerusalem, have instructed our representative Jerusalem approach consular commission for receipt notification of Arab decision. As to truce, would appreciate earliest possible advice ac to procedure whereby we can be notified in time of decision Arab Governments involved in aggression throughout Palestine.”
