Israeli authorities have been alerted to a possible terrorist attempt to hijack an El Al plane and land it in Libya in reprisal for the shooting down of a Libyan airliner by Israeli fighters over Sinai last month. Warnings of the terrorist plot have reached Israel from several sources of information, it was learned today.
The informants hinted that the terrorists might be aided by foreign volunteers or mercenaries recruited from extreme leftist or right-wing circles. It was also suspected that the hijackers would disguise themselves in American or British military uniforms or in the guise of Israeli military personnel, trainmen or policemen. Several months ago Israeli authorities intercepted a bundle of uniforms addressed to a terrorist group.
