President Charles de Gaulle today received retiring Ambassador Jacob Tsur and told the envoy he regretted that Mr. Tsur, whom he had known for many years, was returning to Israel. The two had an informal discussion, during the 45-minute meeting, of political problems during which Gen. de Gaulle demonstrated his usual friendly interest in Israel.
A foundation for increased cultural exchanges between France and Israel will be the farewell gift of the Jewish community of France to Mr. Tsur who is ending a six-year tour of duty as Israel Ambassador, it was disclosed today. A ceremonial dinner is being planned by Paris Jewish communal leaders at which the creation of the Jacob Tsur Fund will be announced.
A series of farewell tributes are being organized in this city and in other French centers, for Ambassador Tsur. To coordinate the farewell events, in which many non-Jews as well as Jews are expected to participate, a special committee was formed here today. Baron Guy de Rothschild has accepted the chairmanship of the committee.
