Israel and Syria have negotiated through several intermediaries in recent months, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak told Newsweek magazine. In an interview published this week, Barak reiterated his praise for Syrian President Hafez Assad, calling him a “strong, reliable, responsible and impressive leader.”
