An agreement has been reached between the Israel authorities and United Nations observers for the latter to sample and inspect various tins of food destined for the Israel guards atop Mt. Scopus and thus permit the UN officers to pass on this information to the Jordanian guards who command the road to the height, it was learned here today.
Last week an Israel convoy returned without having provisioned the guards because its commander refused to have the UN officers–at the request of the Jordanians–open food tins for inspection. The Israel commander noted that this was contrary to accepted procedure and that opening the tinned meats would spoil the contents. As a result of the agreement just reached, it is expected that the Israelis will make a new attempt to bring supplies to Mt. Scopus this Wednesday.
