Israel angered the Vatican by refusing to acknowledge Catholic overtures of friendship, a Vatican representative said at a conference on anti-Semitism in Tel Aviv. The Rev. David Yager blasted as a “blood libel” Jewish charges that Pope Pius XII refused to speak out against the Holocaust. The national director of the Anti-Defamation League rejected the criticism, saying Monday that both sides “have responsibilities that we haven’t fulfilled.”
