Production of an American film, entitled "Cast a Giant Shadow," based on the biography of Col. David "Mickey" Marcus, the American West Point graduate who lost his life while fighting in Israel’s War of Independence, will start here on May 18, it was announced today.
The wide-screen, color film, will star Kirk Douglas as Col. Marcus; Yul Brynner as a commander of a unit of the Haganah, the pre-state defense force of the Palestine Jewish settlement; and John Wayne as an American general. Israel’s army will cooperate with the movie’s producers, contributing 800 soldiers as "extras." The shooting schedule calls for 50 days’ work in Israel and 21 more days in Rome, where some of the interior scenes will be filmed.
