Israel has asked the governments of the United States and Britain to intervene with the Iraqi Government against the “renewed wave of persecution of Jews in Iraq,” a Foreign Ministry spokesman announced today.
Asserting that the latest wave of persecutions began on Yom Kippur, the spokesman said that ten Jews arrested in Amara, south of Bagdad, including the head of the local community, had been jailed and tortured “in best Nazi style” to make them confess membership in the Zionist movement.
