A request was trade by the Israel Government today for 100,000 tons of grain from American surplus stocks for the relief of victims of the most severe drought in Israel’s history.

Levi Eshkol, Israel’s Finance Minister, asked for the grant, valued at about $6,500,000, in an interview with Ogden Reid, American Ambassador to Israel. The envoy promised to submit the request to Washington officials.

Israel’s Labor Ministry meanwhile announced a public works program in the Negev to provide jobs for 300 Bedouin Arabs who suffered severely during the dry spell this spring.
