Israel informed Secretary-General U Thant today that it would cooperate with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in aiding the return of residents to the occupied West Bank area of Jordan as well as in the possibility of the extension of the return date for Arab refugees.
Regarding the return date, Gideon Rafael, the permanent Israeli representative, said in his note to Mr. Thant that “the latest date for the submission of applications to return has been extended to August 10, 1967.” He said “every effort will be made to expedite the return of the refugees.” In this connection, he informed Mr. Thant that conversations have been proceeding with the representatives of the International Red Cross regarding the assistance which the Red Cross could render.
