Premier Golda Meir postponed for eight days a major political statement she was supposed to deliver in the Knesset yesterday in order to await the outcome of Foreign Minister Abba Eban’s talks in Washington, it was learned today. Israel wants to know how the United States intends to react to the growing Soviet military involvement in the Middle East, especially in Egypt. Sources here said that apart from its request for additional American jets, the Israel government wants and attaches great importance to an official U.S. warning to Moscow against further involvement in the Mideast. Mr. Eban is due in Washington tomorrow. He is expected to meet with Secretary of State William P. Rogers and Defense Secretary Melvin Laird. A meeting with President Richard M. Nixon was mentioned here as “likely.” Premier Meir conferred with U.S. Ambassador Walworth Barbour in her office today.
