Funeral services will be held here tomorrow for the late Israel B. Brodie, lifelong American Zioist and a leader in early efforts to develop industry in Israel, who died here this weekend. He was 81.
Born in Lithuania and brought by his parents to the United States at the age of 4, Mr. Brodie was educated in Baltimore and was a law graduate of Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. In the early 1930’s he worked closely in the Zionist field with the late Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis.
He was chairman of the national executive committee of the Zionist Organization of America in 1931, and was a stout proponent of steps to build the industrial capacity of the Jewish settlement in Palestine. He was co-founder, in 1930, of what was then known as the Palestine Potash, Ltd. and, after Israel became a state, helped negotiate an agreement that gave the Israel Government a controlling share in the mining developments in the Dead Sea area. For years, he was a member of the board of directors of the Palestine Economic Corporation.
