Israel took its place as one of the 26 members of the newly constituted executive board of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) on Friday. Consul General Arthur Lourie represented Israel at the first meeting of the new board.
In the vote on a motion to postpone consideration of the question of the Chinese representation on the board, which had been raised by the Soviet representative, Israel’s was one of five votes recorded against the resolution. In a subsequent vote on the same question, raised on a point of order, Israel abstained from voting.
