Israel began to prepare for a possible new wave of Russian Jewish immigrants. Israeli officials in Russia say there has been a flurry of inquiries in recent days about immigration visas. The reports came as President Clinton said he was concerned about the possible ramifications the current instability in Russia could have on the country’s Jewish community.
