According to the UNEF report, four armed Israelis were intercepted in Egyptian territory south of Rafah at the southernmost section of the Gaza Strip border. When intercepted, according to the UNEF report, the Israelis said they had lost their way and withdrew across the border. Israel sources said that Egyptians had opened an attack on an Israel patrol which was well inside Israel territory, launching an incident in which the Israel patrol chased the Egyptians back into Egyptian territory. The Israel sources said that the Israel patrol then retreated to Israel territory still under Egyptian fire. The Israel sources added they had no information about any casualties resulting from the incident.
