The $10,000, 000 Canadian national Israel Bond drive was opened here tonight by Dr. Dov Joseph, Canadian-born Minister without portfolio in the Israel Cabinet. Dr. Joseph came to Canada to open the campaign.
Speaking of the anti-Jewish campaign in the Soviet Union, Dr. Joseph expressed the opinion that it might have been caused by internal and political economic crises in the Communist countries. Samuel Bronfman and Edward E. Gelber, co-chairmen of the national campaign, and Hyman Grover, head of the local Montreal campaign, participated in the open.
Earlier, Dr. Joseph conferred in Ottawa with Canadian Trade Minister J. Howe and Finance Minister Douglas Abbott on improving commercial relations between Israel and Canada. He was received at Montreal’s City Hall today by Mayor C. Houde.
