The Israel Bond dinner in Detroit, which aroused a controversy between the local leaders of the bond campaign and national headquarters of the drive, was held last night at the Statler Hotel there with more than 350 guests attending it was reported here today by national headquarters.
The report said that the dinner resulted in the sale of $261,500 worth of bonds. Senator Wayne Morse, who was the principal speaker, called for all-out aid for Israel in the United States. Israel bonds, he said, provide the capital investment which the Jewish State needs “to strengthen her ramparts against possible Arab attacks.”
Other speakers at the dinner included S. Robert Abrahami, an Israel industrialist; Lieut. Governor Philip A. Hart, of Michigan: Alex Lowenthal, of Pittsburgh, a member of the national executive committee of Israel Bonds; Mrs. Joseph Katchke, chairman of the Detroit Women’s Division for Israel Bonds; Elias Goldberg, Israel chairman of the B’nai B’rith Council of Detroit, and David J. Cohen, Detroit Mizrachi leader.
