The sum of $5,210,000 in Israel Bonds were sold as a result of a dinner at the New York Hilton tonight sponsored by the Greater New York Committee for State of Israel Bonds, at which Major-General Mordechai Hod. Commander of the Israel Air Force, was the principal speaker. The event, which opened the committee’s fall campaign, also honored five Jewish leaders for their participation in the effort to mobilize Israel Bond investment capital for the economic development of the Middle East nation.
William Goldfine, honorary chairman of the Israel Bond drive in New York and chairman of the dinner, announced the total number of Israel Bond sales at the dinner, which was attended by more than 600 persons. The guests of honor, who received the Israel Bond Organization’s Herbert H. Lehman Israel Award, were: David Berg of Manhattan, vice-chairman of the board and counsel to the Royal National Bank of New York; Moses Hornstein of Merrick, L.I., builder and contractor; Mrs. Aleck Leitman of Manhattan, Israel Bond chairman for the New York Chapter of Hadassah; David Minkin of Brooklyn, realtor and builder; and David Rosenthal of Manhattan, women’s wear executive.
