The Cabinet today decided to increase the budget for housing immigrants by 70,000,000 pounds (about $23,300,000). This sum will permit the construction of 55,000 additional housing units beyond the 19,000 originally provided for in the budget for the current fiscal year.
The decision followed a recommendation by the Government Jewish Agency coordinating committee. Seventy per cent of the additional units will be built in development areas. The remainder will go up in various villages and in the vicinity of Haifa.
