A slum-clearance program calling for the construction of 5, 000 housing units was approved yesterday by the Cabinet. The plan is intended to facilitate the clearance of maabarot (transit camps) throughout the country.
The new project, construction of which is due to start immediately, is in addition to 20, 000 units already nearing completion. The Cabinet also voted to increase the budget of the Ministry of Social Welfare to enable higher grants for needy families.
