The Israel Cabinet, at its meeting last night, approved a recommendation of a Committee of Ministers to dissolve the Jerusalem municipality and to name a “caretaker” administration for the city until next summer’s elections.
The national government would appoint officials from various ministries to manage the affairs of the capital, in the interim period, according to this recommendation. The municipal administration fell apart when the Mapai and General Zionists withdrew their support of the coalition headed by Mizrachi Mayor I. Kariv.
